Boxers
All is well
All is well
Can't you tell?
Can't you tell?
We sit in parked cars
With exhaust from our pipes
It's too cold for the cops tonight
Oh oh oh Oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh oh
I love you all
With all my guts
And even still
It's not enough
We drink our whiskey
In pints at the bar
We sigh and shiver
Under miserable stars
And we say hey
How do you say goodbye
To a dream that just won't die
Is it a feeling or is it a lie?
They kicked us out tonight
Oh oh oh Oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh oh
All our heroes
Had no choice
Some busted chords
And a broken voice
A song of justice
Is no soaring wind you'll hum
It's a faraway dirge
That might never come
'Til we say hey
How do you say goodbye
To a dream that just won't die
Is it a feeling or is it a lie?
Yer a boxer against the ropes
& there's blood running down yer throat
But this is the fight you chose
Here we go
Oh oh oh Oh oh oh Oh oh oh oh oh

Suffer No More
Candy looks down
She says I don't know what to do
I swallowed every word
And none of it was true
And every cut
And every wound
And every prayer
In every room
This time's too hard
And the end couldn't come too soon
Don't wanna suffer no more
Don't wanna suffer no more
Tommy stood there
With a giant tear in his eye
To break down or complain
Well he really wasn't the type
He never read a book by Marx
But he knew by now the end was tied to the start
Don't wanna suffer no more
And all we want today
Is something like a fair shake
And all we want tomorrow
Is a ladder that won't fall away
Or be thrown away
Don't wanna suffer no more
Don't wanna suffer no more
Don't wanna suffer no more

God's Not Here Tonight
04:20
|

God's Not Here Tonight
I poured a drink
And sat to watch the blue burn back to stars
And every thought was that blown up film
Of when you crashed our getaway car
Now all this talk
Don't add up to much
When you were counting on those friends
That let you down again
These prayers and songs
Get dark and long
Well If he cared then he just might
But god's not here tonight
You've got some nerve to talk like this
Once you've turned to act like that
I lost some teeth while defending you
And you folded like a rat
Now all this talk
Don't add up to much
When you were counting on those friends
That let you down again
These prayers and songs
Get dark and long
Well If he cared then he just might
But god's not here tonight...
- I don't care what you wanted, I don't care if you're scared -
This world gets hard on hearts that want
And hope for more than this
But like that sun that just disappeared
So will this ghost on my lips
Yeah all this talk
Don't add up to much
When you were counting on those friends
That let you down again
These prayers and songs
Get dark and long
Well If he cared then he just might
But god's not here tonight...
-I don't care what you wanted, I don't care if you're scared-

The First Heartbreak

The First Heartbreak
Take one last look at what you've lost
Maybe now you'll see what it cost
This town don't feel the same
It's frozen in my brain
And you're gone from my heart
From my heart
I was there the night you got that tattoo
Some scars got nothing to hide and everything to lose
We went stumbling down the street
You were dark but you were sweet
You said my tone felt like home
And I wanna go home
Yeah the first heartbreak is the worst heartbreak
It's the worst heartbreak no…
Yeah the first heartbreak is the worst heartbreak
It's the worst heartbreak no, no, no...
Well the last thing that she said
One day you'll know you'd been better off dead
When I'm gone and still haunting you
And you're miles from 22
Then she just laughed...
She said the first heartbreak is the worst heartbreak
It's the worst heartbreak no…
Yeah the first heartbreak is the worst heartbreak
It's the worst heartbreak no, no...

*The First Heartbreak was the first song Kevin and I recorded together. It was a "demo" to test the waters of our collaboration. But there's really no such thing as a demo. Joe came in and we recorded it live and loud in Kevin's project studio. I fell in love with this recording and decided we should just keep it "as is" since it defined where we would go from there.

Heaven's Hill

Heaven's Hill
A big red sun
Down by the riverside
Just off the tracks
Where Ben McCullen died
I found a gun...
So there it was
Still gifted with two rounds
I never told no one
At least well not 'til now
Not 'til now…
It ain't no crime
When you been pushed past the line
We come and go without warning
But we could be in the land of light and joy come morning
I had a job
I had a girl
But it's more than mean
It's a cruel and wicked world
It's a cruel and wicked world
So I did what I did
And just like the whippoorwill
There's only one thing you can bring
Up here to Heaven's Hill
Up here to Heaven's Hill...
No it ain't no crime
When you been pushed past the line
We come and go without warning
But we could be in the land of light and joy come morning
Oh Peter please understand
There's more to this blood on my hands
These orphans break or get broke
And it got so dark I couldn't see any other way home
Home

We Are Libertines
03:33
|

We Are Libertines
We said goodbye
To the ties that drag
And the ties that bind
We poured some drinks
Took a pill to calm our thoughts
Took a hit so we could think
We are libertines…
And no one says stop
And no one says no
And no one says please
Please come home
We drove that car
Just as fast as we could
Through the harder parts
What I can't see
Can't make me feel bad
It didn't happen to me
The great escape
We just and call it love
If you wanna call it rape
We own the house
And if it turns a greater kill
We'll burn it down
We are libertines...
And no one says stop
And no one says no
And no one says please
Please come home
Please come home
A crappy song
Rattles 'round in my head
All night long
The perfect scheme
Flood their heads with useless shit
And make it feel like a dream
We are libertines...
And no one says stop
And no one says no
And no one says please
Please come home
Please come home

Then She Threw Me Like a Hand Grenade
All we wanted was one way out
All we talked of was the great escape
Feeling homeless since we went south
Then she threw my like a hand grenade
Alright
ok
What did you want babe?
What did you say?
Skin on skin
No stones
You might feel lonely but you're not alone
You might feel lonely but you're not alone
Three fires lit a spark in me
It took me years to understand the weight
If you're a prisoner to anything you're not free
Then she threw me like a hand grenade
Ok
Alright
What did you want babe?
Don't lie
Skin on skin
No stones
You might feel lonely but you're not alone
You might feel lonely but you're not alone
All this rain
Fills my head
Are we alive,
Or are we dead?
I only wanted it
Just like you said
That night
Last fall
In my arms
In our bed
In our bed
Alright
ok
What did you want babe?
What did you say?
Skin on skin
No stones
You might feel lonely but you're not alone
You might feel lonely but you're not alone

Until Kingdom Come

Until Kingdom Come
One day you'll be gone
We end like a song
Some crash and some fade
Either way, either way
Let's sing Dirty Old Town at the top of our lungs
Don't look now here comes the sun
Your head is a map and your heart is a drum
And the road is the road you're on 'til kingdom come
Johnny be good, Johnny too bad
Curse your luck and the family you had
We are born in all we fight
But every star's in the sky tonight
So let's sing Dirty Old Town at the top of our lungs
Don't look now here comes the sun
Your head is a map and your heart is a drum
And the road is the road you're on 'til kingdom come
You are the prettiest thing
I'm still in awe of the trouble you'd bring
With a broken heart I watched you leave
And after all I gave you still hated me
So let's sing Dirty Old Town at the top of our lungs
Don't look now here comes the sun
Your head is a map and your heart is a drum
And the road is the road you're on 'til kingdom come
'Til kingdom come
That's the road you're on

This One's for You Frankie
He said
I'm sick
I'm so tired
Of this shit
Every night I'm fighting for my life
A Killian's
A fresh smoke
I saw the graveyards in his throat
He said all my dreams burn and fall like paper planes
Don't quit
Don't go
I've got your back Frankie
I think you know
We all fill our hearts with hopeful bombs
This one's for you Frankie...
And your big broken heart
Your big broken
Wherever you are
Wherever you are
Now!
Thin arms
Tattoos
He said "I lost the plot
What could I do?"
The light just seemed to fall just right from his eyes
Then he said
My heart's broke
I knew he meant it then
The way he spoke
The next day he sold me his rig for 60 bucks
He looked so gone and hollow but he still wished me luck
This one's for you Frankie...
And your big broken heart
Your big broken heart
Wherever you are
Wherever you are
Now!

An Anthem for the Broken
03:48
|
|||
An Anthem for the Broken
An anthem for the ones who hurt
Who broke their fists on dreams and dirt
Who climbed the hills and found the sea
Who saw the tops of home and tree
Who never left their hearts in scars
Who caught the fire in the stars
Who held their kids when they were scared
Who found a way from here to there
An anthem for the real reward
The sometimes broke and bent before
Where hope is lost and winter birds
Float from the wires when shots are heard
An anthem for my mother's arms
The bravest walk, the big alarm
The boxers, cops and soldiers too
The ones who need no gratitude
We won't quit...
An anthem for the brotherhood
The light in the dark and the lean for good
The knowing not which way to go
But here but for the grace of the unknown I know
A dollar's not a peace nor end
I'd do it all and all again
An anthem for the broken hearts
That made it worlds from where they'd start
We won't quit...

If You're Not Happy

If You're Not Happy
Hey
You should stay
Or you can go
If you wanna go
If you're not happy
You're not happy
You're not happy
If you're not happy
It's alright
Just hold tight
And make it through the night
It'll be alright
Hey
What's the world coming to?
Whatever you say
Right now
It's probably true
If you're not happy
You're not happy
You're not happy
If you're not happy
It's alright
Just hold tight
And make it through the night
It'll be alright
I promise you
A few days from now
You'll be glad
You stuck around
You stuck around
Oh oh oh...
If you're not happy
You're not happy
You're not happy
If you're not happy
It's alright
Just hold tight
And make it through the night
It'll be alright

The Queen of My Arms
I wish you were here
I wish you could see this
I know I was bad
I hurt you real good
Words mean so much
When you're caught in a moment
And as time drifts on
You're left scratching your head
But we were drunk
And we were dancing 'til dawn
And you were the queen of my arms
We were playing Neil Young
There in the kitchen
You were making that soup
I was dark on the porch
And I can't recall
What had me so distant
We start out open
Until we're armed like forts
But we were young
And we were dancing 'til dawn
And you were the queen of my arms
So I took this job
Late nights at the station
Where people act like
I ain't worth a dime
But I still have this dream
One night you'll return here
I'll move through your headlights
And inside I'll climb
And out past the farms
And the glow of this nowhere
I'll throw an arm out the window
With just one finger held high
