A Woman Running

I was sitting at my XP30 (a now vintage synth) while Neilson was filling out the choruses of Couldn’t Be Happier with a mellotron. I could hear what he was doing so I was just playing along. During a lunch break I sat down at the piano and recorded with my phone the idea I was toying with. The following day on my drive back into the studio I listened to this short piece. Instrumental music is so generous, it allows us to commune with our own inner countries. But it does this other thing, it makes everything you observe feel like a ballet. While listening a police car blew by. Traffic lights blinked from green to red. The sky brought all its mood. I saw a woman running… And so we hunkered down and filled it out. It acts as that important quiet deep breath between I Walked Away and Couldn’t Be Happier.
